What should the client expect when coming for a massage for the first time?
Expect to spend several minutes providing information that will give your therapist insight as to how to enhance your bodywork experience. This may include dietary habits and lifestyle, physical symptoms, history of injuries/medical conditions, medications, other treatment you are receiving, stressors that could be impacting your functioning, etc. This is an opportunity to ask questions about your therapist ‘s training and/or the process. Next you will be introduced to the massage room and oriented to the table. Clients disrobe to their level of comfort—secure draping is provided at all times, with only the area being worked on exposed. Massage cream/lotion/oil will be used to lessen friction as each stroke is applied. Your therapist will stay in communication with you to maintain comfort throughout the experience. When the massage is over, your therapist will check in with you, provide water, receive payment, and reschedule if requested.
